We begin this exciting experience by picking up travelers from their hotel and transferring them in private transportation to the picturesque town of Cruzpata, located just 50 minutes from Cusco.

Upon arrival at our operations base, you will find the ATVs ready for adventure. Before setting off, you will receive a brief training on the safe handling of the ATVs and have a practice session to ensure all participants feel comfortable before starting the tour.

Upon arrival, our expert guide will provide a brief but essential instruction on ATV handling and the route to follow. You will have 20 minutes of practice to familiarize yourself with the vehicle and ensure you feel comfortable before starting the journey.

First stop: Moray, the Inca Agricultural Laboratory. We head towards Moray, located at (3,385 m / 11,106 ft).

Upon arrival, we will leave the ATVs and begin a guided tour of the impressive circular agricultural terraces. You will learn about the fascinating history of this site, considered a gigantic Inca agricultural laboratory where different microclimates were experimented with. You will have time to explore and capture spectacular photographs of this enigmatic place.

Second stop: After exploring Moray, we get back on our ATVs and head to the Maras Salt Mines, located at (3,000 m / 9,843 ft) above sea level. Upon arrival, you will be amazed by the panoramic view of this ancient site, which has been producing salt since pre-Inca times. With more than 3,000 salt pools of different shapes and sizes, this place offers an impressive landscape ideal for capturing unforgettable photographs. You will learn about the salt collection process and its importance in local history.

After visiting the Maras Salt Mines, we will return by ATV to Cruzpata, where our transportation will be waiting to take us back to Cusco. We will drop you off near the historic center so you can continue exploring Cusco at your own pace.

✓ GROUP EXCURSIONS

  • Group trips consist of different types of people, so physical conditions and ages may vary. By joining a group tour, you accept that some people may be faster or slower than you. Therefore, each person can go at their own pace along the route.

A group may wish to modify the itinerary; however, the guide will make the final decision after consulting all participants to determine if such changes are possible.

✓ PICK-UP SERVICE

Please note:

  • All pick-ups are conducted within the city of Cusco, but we recommend booking a hotel in the historic center with a good location. Our guide or staff will confirm your pick-up time one day before the tour. Due to traffic conditions, the pick-up time may vary by 30 to 45 minutes.

Cusco is an ancient city with many narrow, cobbled streets. Some hotels and Airbnbs are located on streets with no vehicle access or on long, steep inclines, making it difficult to transport your luggage. We strongly recommend booking accommodation with easy access.

✓ LOST ITEMS

  • Please be mindful of where you leave your belongings and ensure you collect everything before leaving our transportation, campsites, or restaurants. You are solely responsible for your belongings during the tour.

✓ WEATHER

  • The weather is unpredictable. Generally, Cusco’s dry season runs from April to October, but that does not prevent rain in June or sunshine in December. Be prepared—no matter which month you are hiking, make sure to have rain gear, including a waterproof jacket, pants, poncho, and gloves. Many people forget gloves, but the cold and humidity can make hiking very uncomfortable.

Additionally, be prepared for four seasons in one day. Trekking in the Andes involves multiple microclimates, so you should be ready for sudden changes. Layering is essential, as it allows you to adjust to varying temperatures easily. Bring a warm jacket, as nights can be very cold.

✓ ALTITUDE SICKNESS (SOROCHE) AND STOMACH ISSUES

For hikers arriving in Cusco from sea-level locations, we recommend arriving two days before your trek to allow time for acclimatization.

The two most common health issues among tourists in Cusco are altitude sickness (soroche) and stomach discomfort caused by slow digestion.

  • Altitude Sickness: Common symptoms include headaches and nausea. Over-the-counter medications such as Aspirin, Diamox, Sorojchi Pills, and Alti Vital can help minimize symptoms. If symptoms persist, oxygen is the next step. In such cases, we have the necessary equipment and staff ready to assist hikers.
  • Stomach Issues: It is recommended to drink 3-4 liters of water per day to stay hydrated. Hot beverages, such as coca leaf tea, are especially beneficial. Soups, vegetables, and carbohydrates (avoiding fried or heavy foods) are ideal. Sweet snacks like chocolate, cookies, and fruit are also good options—generally, any food that is easy to digest. Avoid alcohol and smoking.

Ensure you get at least eight hours of sleep and avoid excessive physical exertion. Keep your body at a comfortable temperature by wearing warm clothing to protect yourself from the cold.

A key rule for acclimatization: Eat lightly and drink plenty of fluids.

This valley was a sacred area for the Incas as it comprised a vast, highly productive agricultural territory. The main crops cultivated by the Incas included corn, potatoes, olluco, quinoa, and coca leaves, which were considered sacred plants.

The Maras Moray ATV tour is an exciting adventure that takes you to visit two iconic sites in the Sacred Valley of the Incas: the Maras Salt Mines and the Moray archaeological site, all while riding ATVs.

The Maras Moray ATV tour takes place in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, specifically at the Moray archaeological site and the Maras Salt Mines, near the town of Cruz Pata in the Cusco region of Peru.

The difficulty level of the Maras Moray ATV tour is classified as “Easy.” Before starting the ride, a brief training session of approximately 20 minutes will be provided. Our guide will be happy to answer any questions you may have about using the ATVs. Your safety and comfort are our priorities.

The tour lasts approximately 6 hours. It starts early in the morning with hotel pickup and ends around 1:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. if you choose the afternoon schedule, both returning to Cusco.

Many people arrive in Cusco the same way. The highest point on the route is Chinchero, but all other locations are at a lower altitude than Cusco. Nevertheless, the guide will always be attentive to your well-being.

No, it is not necessary to purchase tickets in advance. All entrance tickets for the tourist sites can be bought on the same day of the excursion.

The tour is available all year round, subject to weather conditions.

We recommend booking the tour in advance since we have two seasons (high and low), which differ in the number of tourists we accommodate. For this reason, booking early ensures availability and avoids any last-minute inconveniences.

Any luggage that is not necessary for the excursion should be left in Cusco. All hotels in Cusco are accustomed to and equipped for storing luggage. If you do not have a place to store your bags, you can leave them at our office until the adventure is over. We will ensure your belongings are safely stored, so there’s no need to worry!

The best season to visit Cusco is during the dry season, which typically runs from May to September. During these months, the weather is more stable, and there is less chance of rain, making it easier to explore the archaeological sites and enjoy outdoor activities.
