Manu: The Wild Heart of the Amazon, A Refuge of Biodiversity

The Park Manu tour is an unforgettable expedition into one of the most pristine and biologically rich places on Earth. Nestled deep within the Peruvian Amazon, the Manu Reserved Zone offers travelers an extraordinary opportunity to explore lush tropical rainforests, observe rare wildlife, and connect with nature in its purest form.

This immersive experience takes you through dense jungle trails, meandering rivers, and remote observation points where you can spot macaws, monkeys, giant otters, and even elusive jaguars. Every step through Park Manu reveals a new layer of life—more than 1,000 bird species, vibrant insects, ancient trees, and medicinal plants used by local communities for generations.

In addition to wildlife watching, this journey is perfect for wildlife photography enthusiasts, researchers, and adventure seekers. You’ll navigate oxbow lakes by canoe, sleep in eco-lodges surrounded by rainforest sounds, and enjoy sunrise excursions to observe nature in its most active state.

Unlike more commercialized areas, Park Manu remains largely untouched, making it the perfect destination for those seeking a true Amazon jungle tour. Guided by local experts and naturalists, you’ll learn about the intricate ecosystems and the vital role this biodiversity hotspot plays in global conservation efforts.

This tour is not just a journey—it’s a commitment to eco-tourism in Peru, a step toward sustainable travel, and a chance to experience the Amazon as few have seen it: wild, sacred, and alive. Prepare to be transformed by the sounds, scents, and stories of the rainforest on this unforgettable rainforest expedition.

If you are one of those people who seek to explore the most impressive routes of the Amazon, this is the trip you’ve been waiting for. Whether you decide to join alone, with a partner, or with friends, our experience will take you through the most spectacular trails, where the jungle comes to life and every corner is a new discovery.

The Manu Reserved Zone is one of the most protected and biodiverse natural areas in South America, located in the southeast of Peru, in the Amazon region, in the departments of Cusco and Madre de Dios. This area, which is part of the Manu National Park, spans a vast territory that includes a wide variety of ecosystems, from the high mountains of the Andes to the low tropical Amazon jungle.

Exceptional Biodiversity: The Manu Reserved Zone is home to an astonishing diversity of life. With more than 1,000 bird species, 200 mammal species, and an incredible variety of reptiles, insects, and plants, this region is considered one of the most biodiverse places on earth. It is a refuge for rare and endangered species, such as the jaguar, the giant river otter, and the iconic macaws.

Indigenous Communities: The area is also home to indigenous communities such as the Matsigenka, who live in harmony with nature and have a deep knowledge of the region’s flora and fauna. These communities actively participate in the conservation of the area and in responsible ecotourism.

Controlled Access and Conservation: To preserve its biodiversity, access to the Reserved Zone is strictly controlled. Entry is only allowed through authorized guides and ecotourism agencies committed to conservation. This approach ensures that visitors can enjoy the region without causing a negative impact on its fragile ecosystem.

Wildlife and Flora Observation: The opportunity to observe animals in their natural habitat is one of the greatest attractions of Manu. It is possible to spot majestic red and green macaws, howler monkeys, capybaras, caimans, and, if you’re lucky, even a jaguar or a tapir. The region is also home to exotic bird species such as the hoatzin, known for its prehistoric appearance.

A Refuge for the Planet: The Manu Reserved Zone is crucial for the global health of the planet. As part of the Amazon basin, it helps regulate the climate and is vital in the fight against climate change, due to its ability to absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen.

The first day of our unforgettable adventure in the Manu jungle will begin early, when we pick you up around 5:45 a.m. at your hotel in Cusco, with our private transport. Our journey will start by crossing the majestic Andean mountains, a breathtaking landscape that will accompany us for much of the trip.

We will continue our route towards the picturesque town of Huancarani, where we will explore the fascinating funeral chullpas of Ninamarca (3,500 m / 11,482 feet), remains of an ancient pre-Inca cemetery from the Lupaca culture. After that, we will head to Paucartambo (2,906 m / 9,534 feet), known as the “folkloric capital of Cusco.” This small colonial town has managed to preserve its rich traditions over the centuries, keeping its cultural heritage alive despite the passage of time.

Around lunchtime, we will arrive at the Acjanaco pass (3,560 m / 11,679 feet), the entrance gate to the Manu National Park, one of South America’s most protected and biodiverse natural areas. From here, we will begin a winding descent, enveloped in the mysterious mist that covers the Cloud Forest, one of the park’s most fascinating regions. Along this stretch, we will have the opportunity to observe species like the woolly monkey, as well as a wide variety of birds, orchids, and ferns that decorate this unique ecosystem. This area, with its lush flora and fauna, is a true refuge of biodiversity, offering a natural spectacle that is found nowhere else in the world.

At the end of the day, we will arrive at the home of the emblematic Andean cock-of-the-rock, the national bird of Peru, which gathers here in a spectacular social display, creating an amazing display of colors and sounds that only the jungle can offer. It will undoubtedly be a magical moment.

Finally, around 5:00 p.m., we will arrive at the beautiful lodge, where we will spend our first night, surrounded by the tranquility of the jungle and ready to continue exploring this wonderful environment the next day.

Due to traffic conditions, the pickup time may vary by 30 to 45 minutes. Cusco is an ancient city with many narrow and cobblestone streets. • Please pay attention to where you leave your things and remember to collect everything once you leave our transport, campsites, or restaurants. You are solely responsible for your belongings during the tour.

✓ Climate:

  • Of course, the weather is unpredictable. Typically, the dry season in Cusco is from April to October, but this does not prevent rain in June or sunshine in December, so be prepared as it can get very hot in the jungle during the dry season.

✓ Altitude sickness (soroche) and stomach pain:

For those trekkers coming directly to Cusco from sea level, we recommend arriving 2 days before your hike. Two of the most common health issues among tourists in Cusco are:
Altitude sickness (soroche) and stomach pain caused by slow digestion. Altitude sickness symptoms include: headache and nausea.

  • Stomach pain: It is recommended to drink 3-4 liters of water a day. Your body will need it to stay hydrated. Hot drinks like coca leaf tea are highly recommended. Also, soups, vegetables, and carbohydrates (not fried or heavy). Sweets, chocolates, cookies, and fruits are also a good option. In general, all foods that are easy to digest. Do not drink alcohol or smoke.

Try to sleep at least 8 hours and avoid too much exercise. Keep your body at the right temperature by wearing warm clothes to protect yourself from the cold. During the altitude adjustment, there is a general rule to follow: eat only what is necessary and drink plenty of fluids.

Most people travel to Cusco by air. Please note that Cusco’s airport only operates domestic flights. Therefore, if you are coming directly from abroad to Lima, you will need to collect your luggage at the airport and check it in again for your flight to Cusco. Four airlines fly round-trip between Lima and Cusco: LATAM Airlines, AVIANCA Airlines, Star Perú. All these airlines offer similar flight schedules and services, but we generally recommend LATAM Airlines. You also have the option of traveling to Cusco by land. Please note that the trip from Lima to Cusco takes approximately 24 hours.

We offer a variety of local superfoods and traditional Peruvian dishes, such as rice, chicken, beef, salads, potatoes, vegetables, delicious fruits, all freshly prepared by our local chef. We also have excellent vegetarian options and accommodate specific dietary requests with proper preparation and good communication.
