Description

In Manu, biodiversity is the soul of the planet.

The Manu Cultural Zone is one of the most fascinating gateways to the Amazon rainforest, where biodiversity and human culture coexist in perfect harmony. Located within the broader Manu Park Peru, this region is home to an incredible variety of animal and plant species, many of them endemic and endangered, making it a vital sanctuary for conservation.

Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this area is part of the larger national park in Peru known for being one of the most biologically diverse places on Earth. Its preservation is essential for maintaining the delicate ecological balance of the Amazon basin.

In the Manu Cultural Zone, visitors enjoy more than just wildlife observationβ€”they experience the soul of the rainforest through its landscapes, stories, and people. The zone offers an ideal introduction to the Amazon, where travelers can explore lowland forests, observe vibrant birdlife, and interact respectfully with local communities that have safeguarded this land for generations.

This is not only an Amazon ecotourism destination, but also a living museum of rainforest cultural experience. Whether you’re hiking through lush jungle trails, navigating rivers by boat, or listening to the sounds of the forest at night, the Manu Cultural Zone offers a complete and unforgettable immersion in nature and heritage.

Choosing this route within Manu Park Peru is perfect for travelers seeking meaningful connection with the Amazon, blending education, adventure, and sustainability in one transformative journey.

If you’re looking to explore the Amazon’s most breathtaking routes, this is the trip you’ve been waiting for. Whether you decide to join alone, as a couple, or with friends, our experience will take you through the most spectacular trails, where the jungle comes alive and every corner is a new discovery.
The Manu Cultural Region is one of the most fascinating and accessible areas to explore in the Peruvian Amazon and is considered one of Peru’s most impressive destinations. On this tour, you’ll pass through a wide variety of landscapes, from the majestic Andes Mountains to the high and lowland rainforests of Manu National Park, one of the most biodiverse natural areas in the world.
Throughout this trip, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the Chullpas de Ninamarca, an ancient pre-Incan cemetery that is part of the cultural heritage of the people who inhabited the region before the arrival of the Incas.
The next destination is the picturesque colonial town of Paucartambo, known for its well-preserved colonial architecture. In this town, you can see the iconic colonial bridge, dating back to the colonial era, as well as the colonial temple, a place that reflects the passage of time and the influence of Spanish culture in the region.
As you enter Manu National Park, you will be accompanied by specialized guides who will provide you with first-class attention, ensuring you make the most of this unique experience. You will also enjoy delicious traditional dishes prepared by our expert chefs. In this park, you will encounter astonishing biodiversity. Manu is home to more than 1,000 species of birds, 200 species of mammals, and hundreds of plant species. Among the most emblematic species you can observe are the woolly monkey, the spectacled bear, and many other unique species. Manu is, without a doubt, one of the richest places in biodiversity on the planet. One of the most spectacular moments will be a visit to the parrot clay lick, a natural phenomenon where thousands of parrots gather in large numbers to feed on the clay of the cliffs, creating a stunning visual spectacle.
Did you know that Manu National Park was created in 1973 and was later recognized as a Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site by UNESCO? Join us and discover the heart of the jungle and everything it has to offer!

We will pick you up from your hotel around 5:45 a.m., and after a short 1 hour and 30-minute trip, we will make our first stop at Chullpas de Ninamarca (3,500 m / 11,482 ft), a pre-Inca site belonging to the Lupaca culture. During the drive, you will enjoy breathtaking views of the Andean mountains and valleys β€” a landscape that sets the tone for the adventure ahead.

Then, we will arrive at the picturesque folkloric town of Paucartambo (2,906 m / 9,534 ft), where you will enjoy a typical breakfast. This town is well-known for its vibrant culture and deep-rooted traditions. After a short break, we will continue our journey to Acjanaco (3,560 m / 11,679 ft), the entrance point to Manu National Park. There, our guide will provide a brief introductory talk about the park and its impressive biodiversity.

From Acjanaco, we will travel approximately 2 more hours to reach the cloud forest β€” one of the park’s most iconic and unique areas. Upon arrival, we will begin a hike through this lush ecosystem, where we can observe the stunning Andean cock-of-the-rock (the national bird of Peru), several monkey species, orchids, ferns, and cascading waterfalls nestled within the high jungle. Along the trail, we will pause to enjoy lunch surrounded by the sounds and serenity of nature.

Afterward, we will continue to Pilcopata (968 m / 3,175 ft), where we will arrive at our first lodge. There, you’ll have time to rest and enjoy a delicious dinner prepared with fresh, local ingredients.

At night, we’ll take a night walk β€” a truly special experience to encounter nocturnal jungle fauna such as insects, frogs, and perhaps even snakes. This immersive walk will introduce us to the jungle’s mysterious side, adding a perfect ending to our first day in the Peruvian Amazon.

Highlights of the day

  • Walk through the cloud forest of Manu Park: we will explore one of the most vibrant and biodiverse ecosystems in the park, filled with lush vegetation and unique wildlife.

  • Birdwatching in the cloud forest: during the hike, we’ll observe a variety of colorful bird species such as tanagers, toucans, barbets, hummingbirds, two species of quetzals, trogons, motmots, woodpeckers, and hawks β€” all in a breathtaking natural setting.
