Day 1: Cusco | Soqma - Perolniyoc - Racaypata - Rayan
Your adventure begins early at 5:00 a.m. when we pick you up from your accommodation to start the journey to our starting point. For an hour and a half, you will travel in our comfortable private transport, where we will provide blankets in case you wish to rest a little longer.
Upon arrival, you will enjoy a delicious breakfast before meeting our team, including the cooks and guides. Then, we will begin the hike with a 3 to 4-hour trek to the impressive Perolniyoc waterfall. Along the way, we will pass through the small village of Soqma, surrounded by fields of corn, potatoes, and quinoa. Once at the waterfall, you will have time to relax, refresh yourself, or even take a natural shower under its crystal-clear waters.
Feeling renewed, we will continue to the archaeological site of Racaypata, built on a cliff with spectacular views of the surrounding valley. Our expert guides will provide a fascinating lesson on this incredible place. Here, we will also enjoy a lunch in the middle of the mountains, carefully prepared by our team.
In the afternoon, we will take a gentle one-hour ascent to our campsite in Rayan (3,700 m / 12,139 ft). You will have time to rest, explore the surroundings, and enjoy a delicious dinner. While waiting for your meal, take a moment to admire the Andean night sky, where you can see constellations and shooting stars. Later, you will relax in the comfort of your tent to spend the night and recharge energy for the next day.

Day 2: Rayan | Puccaqasa - Kuichiqasa Pass - Sun Gate - Choquetacarpo
After an energizing breakfast, we will begin a 3-hour ascent to reach the first summit of the trek at Puccaqasa (4,400 m / 14,436 ft). From here, you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the Sacred Valley, the perfect place to capture unforgettable photos.
Then, we will descend for about 25 minutes to our lunch spot, where a well-deserved and delicious meal prepared by our talented cooks awaits us. Once recharged, we will continue with a 2-hour hike, crossing up-and-down terrain.
In the last 20 minutes of this section, we will reach the highest point of the entire trek: Kuychicassa Pass (4,500 m / 14,764 ft). From this altitude, you will marvel at spectacular landscapes and panoramic views of the majestic snow-capped glaciers.
Next, we will begin the descent to the archaeological site of Inti Punku or Sun Gate (3,900 m / 12,795 ft). Here, you will learn about the history of this ancient site while enjoying a privileged view of the La Verónica glacier (5,682 m / 18,542 ft) and the impressive Sacred Valley of the Incas, a must-see destination during your visit to Cusco.
Finally, we will descend for 30 minutes to our campsite in the Choquetacarpo area (3,600 m / 11,811 ft). Now you can relax, enjoy another exquisite dinner, and rest peacefully before continuing the adventure.

Day 3: Choquetacarpo | Cachicata - Ollantaytambo - Pinkuylluna Mountain
As every morning, we will welcome you with a delicious and abundant breakfast to start the day with energy. Then, we will begin a 1-hour descent to the Cachicata quarries (3,520 m / 11,549 ft), the place where the Incas extracted stones to build Ollantaytambo.
At the site, you will enjoy a guided tour to learn more about its history and observe the impressive carved stone blocks, whose transport was interrupted with the arrival of the Spanish. It is fascinating to see the perfect cuts that the Incas achieved with simple tools.
Afterward, we will descend from the quarry for 3 hours until we reach the picturesque town of Ollantaytambo (2,792 m / 9,160 ft), considered the most beautiful Inca town in the Sacred Valley, where we will enjoy a well-deserved lunch.
Here, we will begin a 40-minute uphill hike to the Pinkuylluna warehouses, an archaeological gem with spectacular views of the city and the Sacred Valley. From this privileged point, you can enjoy an impressive landscape while our tour guide shares fascinating facts about the Inca granaries. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to take incredible photos in this unique setting. After the exploration, we will descend for 30 minutes to our hotel in Ollantaytambo, where we will spend the night.
In the evening, we will enjoy dinner at a local restaurant, including an appetizer, a soup, and a main course with various options to choose from. During dinner, our guide will take the opportunity to organize the details for the next day’s trip on the Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

Day 4: Ollantaytambo | Km 104 - Chachabamba - Wiñay Wayna - Sun Gate (Inti Punku) - Machu Picchu - Aguas Calientes
After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, we will head to the Ollantaytambo Train Station to board the train that will take us to KM 104, also known as Chachabamba. This train journey lasts approximately one hour, during which you can admire the landscapes of the Sacred Valley and the transition to the lush cloud forest.
You will get off the train at the famous Km 104, where your hike begins (2,150 m / 7,053 ft). After crossing the Urubamba River on a picturesque pedestrian bridge, you will present your passport at the checkpoint and visit your first nearby Inca site. Please note that you will need your original passport to pass through the control point.
Our first stop is a beautiful archaeological site called Chachabamba, where your guide will give you an introduction to Inca history and the Inca Trail. After exploring this beautiful Inca site, we will walk along an ancient Inca Trail.
The first section of the Inca Trail is a gradual incline for about 4 hours until we reach the archaeological site of Wiñay Wayna. This is one of the most beautiful Inca sites along the Inca Trail. At this point, we will take some time to explore this impressive archaeological site while enjoying spectacular views of the Andes. Here, you will also enjoy a delicious box lunch to recharge your energy.
We will then continue our hike to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku), where you will get your first glimpse of the Lost City of the Incas, a truly unforgettable sight. We arrive at the Sun Gate around 2:00 p.m., when the crowds at Machu Picchu have started to disperse, allowing you to enjoy this place with fewer people around. From this unique vantage point, you will have an amazing view of Machu Picchu. There are also a couple of important Inca sites between the Sun Gate and Machu Picchu, so be sure to take your time.
Once you arrive at Machu Picchu, you will have time to take more photos from the observation platforms above the site (Guardian’s House), where you can capture the famous postcard-perfect shots of Machu Picchu. You will arrive in the afternoon when the archaeological area starts to empty of tourists, giving you the chance to take beautiful photos in the afternoon light with fewer people in your shots. Take your time to enjoy this magical experience before taking the bus to Aguas Calientes to check into your hotel. You will have a delicious dinner, and then you can take a walk around this picturesque town, visit the hot springs, or simply go to your hotel to rest after such an exciting day.

Day 5: Aguas Calientes | Machu Picchu - Ollantaytambo - Cusco
Today is Machu Picchu day. You will need to wake up before dawn to beat the crowds and take the first bus, which will take you on a 25-minute ride to the entrance gate of Machu Picchu.
Once inside Machu Picchu, your guide will lead you to a strategic viewpoint where you can admire the Inca architecture of Machu Picchu and take the best postcard-worthy photos. Then, you will begin your guided tour through the main sectors of the citadel, which will last about 2 hours. During this guided tour, you will learn more about the history and culture of the Inca Empire.
At the end of the tour, you will have some free time to continue taking photos and exploring any remaining areas you want to visit. If you have planned to hike Huayna Picchu, your guide will show you where to start this hike, which takes about 2 hours round trip. (This must be reserved in advance, as spots are limited, and the cost is $60 USD per person.)
Machu Picchu Mountain is another hike, an alternative to Huayna Picchu. This hike is more challenging and takes at least 3 hours round trip (also with an additional cost of $60 USD per person).
Once you have enjoyed the exceptional views of Machu Picchu, take the bus back to Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included). Depending on the train departure time, you may also have time for some shopping, sightseeing, or visiting the museum or hot springs.
The Expedition train will take you back to Ollantaytambo at 2:55 p.m. or 3:20 p.m., following the spectacular Urubamba River. Near Aguas Calientes, the canyon narrows, and the river features many beautiful sections of whitewater rapids. Back in Ollantaytambo, your driver will meet you at the train station exit to take you back to Cusco in our vehicle. You can expect to arrive at your hotel around 7:30 p.m.

× HUAYNA PICCHU MOUNTAIN
- Huayna Picchu Mountain is located behind the citadel and is commonly seen as the backdrop in the classic Machu Picchu pictures. Only 400 spots per day are available, divided into two shifts: from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. (200 spots) and from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. (200 spots). Tickets are required and sell out months in advance. Reaching the summit takes about 45 minutes, with a round trip lasting approximately 2 hours. The most amazing part of this hike is the 360-degree view from the summit, overlooking the Inca ruins, the winding Wilkamayu (Urubamba) River, and the lush mountainous landscape.
Huayna Picchu Mountain: $60 USD.
× MACHU PICCHU MOUNTAIN
- Machu Picchu Mountain is located on the opposite side of Huayna Picchu. It offers a panoramic view of the Machu Picchu archaeological site, Huayna Picchu Mountain, Putucusi Mountain, the winding Wilkamayu (Urubamba) River, the lush mountainous landscape, and the final section of the Classic Inca Trail. This hike is not particularly dangerous or difficult but does require a good amount of effort. The time needed to reach the summit depends on individual physical condition and can vary from 1 to 1.5 hours to ascend or 2 to 3 hours round trip.

- If you booked your trip with an old passport and later renewed it, you likely changed your passport number. Please inform us so we can update this information. - Passengers who booked their trip using the discounted student rate with an ISIC card must carry their original and valid CIIU card (not a copy, not expired). - Although the International Student Identity Card (ISIC) is recognized worldwide, it is not accepted by the Peruvian government for student discounts at Machu Picchu. Just as a passport cannot be replaced by another document in international procedures, a student ID cannot be substituted with an ISIC or any other card for discounts in Peru.
- The Peruvian government strictly enforces student verification. A valid ID that meets the official criteria is mandatory to obtain discounted entry. Due to strict regulations from Machu Picchu National Park & Inca Trail authorities, once a reservation is made, the permits and spots purchased cannot be canceled, transferred, or rescheduled.
- If you cancel 30+ days before the trip, you forfeit your deposit but retain the tickets purchased on your behalf.
- If you cancel 2-3 days before departure, it will be considered a “no-show”, and you must pay 100% of the total cost. However, you will still receive the entry tickets, a guided visit to Machu Picchu, and train/bus tickets as originally scheduled.
- If you quit mid-tour for personal reasons, you will automatically forfeit all included services. Any additional expenses for returning to Cusco (meals, transportation, accommodation) are at your own expense. However, you can still join the group at Machu Picchu for the visit, including your entry ticket, guided tour, bus, and train back to Ollantaytambo.

- Please note. All pick-ups are done within the city of Cusco, but we recommend you book a hotel in the historic center with a good location. Our guide or staff will confirm the pick-up time with you one day before the tour. Due to traffic conditions, the pick-up time may vary between 30 to 45 minutes. Cusco is an ancient city with many narrow, cobblestone streets. Some hotels and Airbnbs are located on streets with no transportation access or on long, steep climbs, making it difficult to transport your luggage. We strongly recommend you book accommodation with easy access.

- Of course, the weather is unpredictable. Typically the dry season in Cusco is from April to October, but this doesn’t prevent rain in June or sunshine in December, so be prepared – no matter what month you’re trekking, make sure you have rain gear including a waterproof jacket, pants, poncho, and waterproof gloves. Many people forget gloves, but the cold and humidity make hiking very unpleasant.
Also, be prepared for four seasons. Hiking in the Andes involves several microclimates, and you’ll need to be prepared. Layers are always essential as they are easy to adjust to different temperature changes. Be prepared with a warm jacket as the night will be cold.

For those hikers coming to Cusco directly from places at sea level, we recommend arriving 2 days before your hike. Two of the most common health problems among tourists in Cusco are: Altitude sickness (Soroche) and stomach pain caused by slow digestion. Altitude sickness; some of the symptoms are: headache and nausea. There are some over-the-counter medications (pills) that help minimize the symptoms of this problem, Aspirin, Diamox, Soroichi Pill, Alti Vital, among others. If the symptoms persist, the next step is the use of oxygen. In these circumstances, we have the equipment and staff ready to help our hikers.
- Stomach pain:
It is recommended to drink between 3-4 liters of water a day. Your body will need it to stay hydrated. Hot drinks such as coca leaf mate are especially recommended. Soups, vegetables and carbohydrates (not fried or heavy) are also recommended. Sweets, chocolates, cookies and fruits are also a good option. In general, all foods that are easy to digest. Do not drink alcohol or smoke.
Try to sleep at least 8 hours and do not exercise too much. Keep your body at an adequate temperature by wearing warm clothing to protect you from the cold. During altitude adaptation there is a general rule to follow: eat what is necessary and drink plenty of fluids.
