Day 1: Cusco | Chullpas de Ninamarca - Paucartambo - Acjanaco Pass - Cloud Forest - Pilcopata
We will pick you up from your hotel around 5:30 a.m. and, after a short trip of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, we will make our first stop at the Chullpas of Ninamarca (3,500 m / 11,482 ft), a pre-Inca site belonging to the Lupaca culture. During the journey in our vehicle, you will enjoy the stunning views of the Andean mountains and valleys, a landscape that will set the tone for the rest of the adventure.
Then, we will arrive at the picturesque folkloric town of Paucartambo (2,906 m / 9,534 ft), where you will enjoy a typical breakfast. This town is known for its rich culture and traditions. After a short break, we will continue our trip to Acjanaco (3,560 m / 11,679 ft), the entrance to Manu National Park, where our guide will give a brief introductory talk about the park and its local biodiversity.
From Acjanaco, we will continue for approximately 2 hours toward the cloud forest, one of the park’s most iconic areas. Upon arrival, we will start our hike through this unique ecosystem, where we may observe the astonishing Andean cock-of-the-rock, the emblematic bird of the region, along with several species of monkeys, plants, orchids, ferns, and beautiful waterfalls in the high jungle. Along the way, we will take a break to enjoy lunch surrounded by nature, an experience that will make this journey even more special.
After lunch, we will continue our journey to Pilcopata (968 m / 3,175 ft), where we will finally arrive at our first lodge. ✓ Reservation Policy:
To secure your spot in the Manu Cultural Zone tour, we require a non-refundable deposit of $180 USD. This deposit ensures your place in the jungle.

✓ Informative Meeting or Briefing:

✓ Tour Balance Payment (in Cusco):
- If you still have a pending balance, you must pay it one day before your hike/tour. Otherwise, your trip reservation will not be confirmed. If possible, we highly appreciate payments in cash, either in US dollars or local currency, at our office in Cusco or during the briefing. You can withdraw money from various ATMs along Avenida Sol (either in US dollars or Peruvian soles). You can also pay by credit/debit card or through IZIPAY, online or in person, but a 5% service fee applies, charged by our payment gateway (Niubiz) and IZIPAY.
✓ Customer Pickup:
- Please note that all pickups take place within the city of Cusco. However, we recommend booking a hotel in the historic center with a good location. Our guide or staff will confirm the pickup time one day before the tour. Due to traffic conditions, the pickup time may vary by 30 to 45 minutes. Cusco is an old city with many narrow, cobbled streets. Some hotels and Airbnbs are located in areas with no vehicle access or on long, steep climbs, making luggage transportation difficult. We strongly recommend booking accommodation with easy access.
✓ Lost Items:
- Please pay attention to where you place your belongings and remember to collect everything before leaving our transport, camps, or restaurants. You are solely responsible for your belongings during the tour.
✓ Weather:
- The weather is, of course, unpredictable. Generally, the dry season in Cusco runs from April to October, but that doesn’t mean it won’t rain in June or that the sun won’t shine in December. Be prepared, as the jungle is very hot during the dry season.
✓ Altitude Sickness (Soroche) and Stomach Pain:
For hikers arriving in Cusco directly from sea-level locations, we recommend arriving at least two days before your trek. Two of the most common health issues among tourists in Cusco are:
- Altitude sickness (soroche): Some symptoms include headaches and nausea.
- Stomach pain: Often caused by slow digestion.
To prevent these issues:
- Drink 3-4 liters of water daily to stay hydrated.
- Hot drinks like coca leaf tea are highly recommended.
- Eat soups, vegetables, and carbohydrates (avoid fried or heavy foods).
- Sweets, chocolates, cookies, and fruits are good options.
- Avoid alcohol and smoking.
- Get at least 8 hours of sleep and avoid excessive exercise.
- Keep your body warm with suitable clothing to protect against the cold.
Manu National Park is located in the Amazon region, in the southeast of Peru, covering parts of the Cusco and Madre de Dios departments.
Tours can last between 3 to 10 days, depending on the itinerary and included activities.
No, mobile phone coverage is very limited in the park, especially in remote areas. Be prepared to disconnect during the tour.
The park’s climate is warm and humid, with frequent rain. It is important to be prepared with appropriate clothing and insect protection. However, our guides are trained to ensure the group’s safety.
Yes, photography is allowed, but always with respect for the wildlife and natural environment. We recommend using long-range lenses to avoid getting too close to the animals.
Yes, you can visit the park without the yellow fever vaccine, but it is strongly recommended for health and safety reasons.
The climate is tropical, with an average temperature of 32°C (89°F), though it can range between 25°C (77°F) and 42°C (107°F). During the summer season, from December to March, heavy rainfall is common, especially in the afternoon.
Most people travel to Cusco by air. Keep in mind that Cusco’s airport only operates domestic flights, so if you are arriving from abroad to Lima, you must collect your luggage and recheck it for your flight to Cusco.
There are four airlines offering flights between Lima and Cusco:
- LATAM Airlines
- AVIANCA Airlines
- Star Perú
We generally recommend LATAM Airlines.
Alternatively, you can travel to Cusco by land, but the journey from Lima takes approximately 24 hours.
We offer a variety of local superfoods and traditional Peruvian dishes, including rice, chicken, beef, salads, potatoes, vegetables, and fresh fruit, all prepared by our local chef.
We also provide vegetarian options and accommodate special dietary requests with proper preparation and good communication.
